Sute de adulti si circa 30 de copii au parasit clinica respirand prin plamanii altcuiva.Medicatia suport posttransplant este foarte costisitoare in primele doua luni si ajunge si la 2.000 de euro pe luna pentru tot restul vietii. O zi de spitalizare in clinica din Viena costa 960 de euro, pentru un pacient Asteptarea este determinata de faptul ca plamanii sunt perisabili si trebuie transplantati in maximum patru ore de la recoltare. Ore critice in care pacientul traieste legat la un aparat de oxigen trebuie sa ajunga la Viena.Operatia in sine nu este foarte complicata insa determinarea tratamentului posttransplant este dificila si se face cu niste aparate performante inexistente la noi in tara. La ora actuala in Romania sunt 11 transplantati de plamani toti in Viena.Primul transplant la un pacient din Romanaia a fost facut in urma cu 8 ani.Titu fiind al doilea in urma cu 5 ani.Nici nu a apucat sa se bucure in totalitate de aceasta reusita ca are nevoie de un retransplant.

AKH (Allgemeines Krankenhaus der Stadt Wien - link to http://www.akhwien.at/default.aspx?pid=1) is a state clinic in Vienna, Austria where thousands of lives are saved every year. For over 15 years they have been performing lung transplants. Hundreds of adults and about thirty children have left the clinic breathing through new lungs.

However, the post-transplant medicine is very expensive for the first 8 weeks and can reach 2000 euros/month for the rest of the patient's life. The cost for each admitted patient is about 960 euros/day.

Wait times at the clinic vary, but everything must be prepared and ready at a moment's notice. Human lungs degrade in about 4 hours. The surgery itself is not complicated, however the post-op treatment is very difficult and uses top class equipment unavailable in Romania.

Today, in Romania there are 11 lung transplant recipients, all having gone through AKH. The first lung transplant for a Romanian was performed 8 years ago. Titu's case was the second, 5 years ago. He's barely had time to enjoy the success, and now needs another intervention.
